Le Currents is a two-day celebration of music, culture and arts, set in Taupō and built around a carefully curated programme of live performance, independent music and festival culture. (⁠Le Currents)

For Le Currents 2027, NJL Productions returns to provide the festival’s lighting production across both days.

The brief is to create a lighting environment that supports the character of the festival, enhances each artist’s performance and maintains a strong visual identity from daylight through to the final sets each night.

Working within a fast-moving festival format, the lighting design needs to be flexible enough to accommodate multiple artists and performance styles while remaining cohesive across the wider event.

NJL Productions’ scope includes:

• festival lighting design and technical planning;

• lighting systems and infrastructure;

• programming and show operation;

• artist and production advance;

• integration with stage, audio and festival operations;

• two-day on-site delivery and technical support.

The approach is performance-led rather than technology-led: using lighting to give each act its own visual language while preserving the relaxed, contemporary character that defines Le Currents.

Returning for another year also allows the production to build on an established understanding of the festival, its site and its audience — refining the lighting system while maintaining continuity across the event.
